Ottawa, Ont., 2016-Jun-15 — /Travel PR News/ — The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) supports the government’s efforts to promote  (UAS), commonly known as drones, with its latest awareness campaign on “No Drone Zones,” launched today in Ottawa.

“ALPA is in favour of integrating UAS into Canada’s airspace, but only if done so as not to imperil other users of the airspace, including passengers and crew on thousands of airliners as well as people on the ground. Just like bicycles, which are welcome on certain roads and certain areas but prohibited from others, there are ways to fly UAS safely and there are places where they should not be, for safety’s sake,” said Captain Dan Adamus, president of ALPA’s Canada Board. “The minister’s emphasis on ‘No Drone Zones,’ including making signs available for posting near airports, is a great step in the education process.”

ALPA has encouraged the safe integration of UAS and worked with the Canadian and U.S. governments to develop regulations that include increased awareness for operators as to the dangers associated with irresponsible use.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents over 53,000 pilots at 31 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
